Native to Africa, this amazing group of succulents is known for its fly-attracting flowers that smell of carrion. Stapelias can be grown in the open garden or in containers, and they do especially well in hanging baskets. They are drought-tolerant but cannot be left dry for a prolonged period of time. They need a well-draining soil, and a sunny, part-shade, or light shade position. They do not like to be kept cold and damp. These are fascinating plants for the collector or anyone who likes something out of the ordinary!
